May is Lupus Awareness Month

Once again, Lumiere Mineral Cosmetics and Kileng have teamed up for our 2nd annual Lupus fundraiser to commemorate Lupus Awareness Month! Help us raise raise money to aid in Lupus research and make a difference in the lives of those affected by lupus.

***As of June 1, 2010, there are still some sets available. 100% of the proceeds of these sets will still benefit Lupus research, and this page and fundraiser set will remain available until they are sold out.***

This year, we are doing a pink theme for our Lupus set. "Lotus" is a beautifully sparkling pink with a strong layer of purple iridescence. "Lean Treat" is a glistening sheer pink... reminiscent of what crushed pink pearls might look like. The names of these eye shadows were inspired by two amazing women who live with Lupus everyday.

You can help join the fight against lupus and be beautifully sparkly with this very Limited Edition set. This set includes two eyecolors especially made by Lumiere Mineral Cosmetics for this occasion. These mineral eyeshadows come in square 3 gram jars, filled with approximately 1/2 teaspoon of product. What is Lupus?

Lupus is a disease where the immune system that is supposed to fight off foreign bacteria and viruses cannot tell the difference between these foreign substances and its own. Essentially, the body is attacking itself because it cannot tell the difference between what is bad and good for its own body. Lupus can affect any part or parts of the body, such as the joints, kidneys, skin, brain, and blood vessels.

Some quick facts about Lupus:
- 90% of Lupus patients are women.
- Lupus is not contagious.
- The cause of Lupus is unknown.
- There is no cure.
- It is believed that about 5 million people in the world have Lupus, and of those, 1.5 million are in America.
- It has been over 50 years since the FDA has approved a drug for Lupus treatment.

What is OMRF?
The proceeds will go to Lupus research currently being done at the Oklahoma Medical Research Foundation (OMRF). OMRF is a non-profit biomedical research institute located in Oklahoma City. Along with Lupus, OMRF focuses research on heart disease, cancer, Alzheimer's disease, and many others. OMRF is also ranked a Four Star Charity, which is the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator, the nation's largest charity evaluator. By donating to an institute that performs research, proceeds will go directly benefit research.

I love makeup! It lets me balance my day job as a scientist with the chance to play among the sparklies and have fun with all my girlfriends. I've really been into makeup since high school, and my addiction grew while in college. I became fascinated with eye makeup in particular, since that's the first thing people often see, and I could really explore my creative side.

Over the years, I've worked with many different eye types, as people began to seek out my advice. So, I've learned to enhance big and small eyes, Caucasian, Asian, whatever - they are all more beautiful with the right colors and the right tools. There's always been a problem, though, helping people to locate inexpensive and great synthetic eye brushes so they can learn to create the looks they love. I wanted to find synthetic brushes, both because they work best with minerals and to insure they are completely cruelty-free.

I was delighted to find a line of brushes that met all my criteria, and am pleased to introduce you to them here. In addition, I want to bring fun accessories to your makeup wardrobe, like our Swoosh & Scoop Sets, which are perfect additions to your mineral makeup needs and make charming gifts for your girlfriends.
